Robomates games: Free-for-All Battles

Hi! I’m the engineer behind Robomates, and my goal is simple: make robots ridiculously fun to play with. This is the first article in a series where I’ll introduce different game modes for Robomates. Free-for-All battles are all about chaos — no teams, no alliances, just pure robotic mayhem. This is just the beginning. More game modes will roll out in the future, and eventually, you’ll be able to create your own.

So, let’s dive into the first batch of games that will turn your robots into battle-hardened champions.

1. Tag

One robot starts as "It" and must tag others by scanning their tags. Once scanned, that robot becomes the new chaser, and the madness continues. The game can go on forever or for a set time limit. The key is speed, evasion, and quick reflexes.

Pro Tip:

  • Equip speed-enhancing customizations to escape quickly after tagging someone.

2. King of the Hill

A single base sits in the middle of the battlefield. Maybe on a hill. Players rush to scan it and hold their ground while opponents try to knock them off. The longer you control the base, the closer you are to victory.

Pro Tips:

  • Get to the base early and establish control before the main crowd arrives.
  • Time your attacks — wait for others to weaken each other before making your move.

3. Checkpoint Race

Robots must scan checkpoints in a specific order, completing a set number of laps to win. Missing a checkpoint means looping back, wasting valuable time. The fastest and most efficient racer takes the crown.

Pro Tips:

  • Use controlled bursts of speed rather than always going full throttle.
  • Observe opponents and block them at crucial points to slow them down.

4. Last One In

Several bases start as active, but every few minutes, one deactivates. Players must scramble to claim a base before they run out. Those left without a base are eliminated. It's a battle of speed, positioning, and last-second maneuvers.

Pro Tips:

  • Position yourself near multiple bases to increase your chances of survival.
  • Fake out opponents by moving toward one base and quickly switching to another.
  • If competition is fierce, try to bump a rival away from the last open base.

5. Floor is Lava

Each robot is assigned a random base color and must scan the correct one before time runs out. If you don’t reach your base in time, you lose points. The twist? The colors keep changing unexpectedly.

Pro Tips:

  • Keep scanning the field and memorize base locations to react instantly.
  • Stay in motion and be ready to sprint toward a new color at any moment.
  • Anticipate random color changes and avoid clustering near other players.

6. Arena

The most brutal mode of them all. Everyone fights, and only the strongest robot wins. Collisions deal damage, and heavily damaged (a lot of customizations lost) robots slow down until they are eventually eliminated. The last bot standing takes the crown.

Pro Tips:

  • Target already damaged opponents to increase your survival odds.
  • Avoid getting trapped between multiple bots — stay mobile and unpredictable.
  • Use momentum to land powerful hits and knock opponents off balance.
